Live music all night long, bright colors everywhere you turn, people dancing, flavorful food, long standing traditions mixed with new concepts, and the most inviting culture of people that just want to show you how exciting life can be. That’s what I think about now when anyone asks me about Morocco. It was one of the fastest weeks of my life and I’m so grateful it happened.
This is probably one of my biggest blog posts for any wedding. There were so many unique things that happened during this 14 hour wedding day in Casablanca, Morocco. When I say there was live music all night long, I don't mean what you think of when you think of an American wedding. During American weddings the music happens during the reception. At a Moroccan wedding the music starts as soon as the first guest arrives, so that they dance on their way into the party. It is dancing music all night. It is shake it till you drop music all night. It’s the kind of music that you have stuck in your head for months afterwards and you have dreams about the music all night. Drums and horns and chanting and castanets and instruments I’ve never seen before! Everything caught my eye. It was hard to keep up at times!
There’s so much I can say about this beautiful, orchestrated chaos filled day. I was grateful for the quiet moments. Like when Ghita, our lovely bride, was getting her makeup done, or when I had the chance to capture the set up of the venue, or even when Ghita had to switch her wardrobe four times. I was happy to get to know her and her immediate family before the 300+ other guests arrived. It felt like the calm before the storm as I walked around their family home, exploring the grounds and taking photos of all the different plants and the many cats (and a peacock!) that lived there. Most of all, I was thankful that my wonderful boyfriend, James, likes to be as spontaneous as me and decided that he’d be too jealous to let me go to Morocco all by myself. He booked his flight the day after I got my ticket. What an adventure to share with someone.
I am humbled by this trip and my wonderful clients who treasure the work that I create for them. What a rare and gorgeous opportunity to be given. Thank you Samad for introducing me to your culture and for making me feel like I was part of your family. James and I can’t wait to explore more of Morocco in the future.
xx Sam
